🔥 SAPL WEEK 5 RESULTS: THE PLAYOFF RACE IS ON

🟢 EASTERN CONFERENCE 🍩 THRASHERS vs MK PADEL Thrashers win 12–4

THE ONE WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR.

MK were the team we thought could really test Thrashers, and they certainly did a better job than most.

But in the end, Thrashers remain unbeaten at 5–0.

And more importantly...

🏆 THRASHERS ARE OFFICIALLY THROUGH TO THE PLAYOFFS!

Five matches.

Five wins.

72 points.

They can now sit back for the final match and watch everyone else fight over the remaining spots.

Not that they'll be sitting back for long. 😂

👩 MK finally crack the Thrashers Ladies

Bianca Wiggill & Wendy Odendaal managed something we haven't seen often this season.

They beat Carmen Hargroves & Marie-Louise Kleynhans in the first two sets 7–5, 6–4.

Carmen and Marie-Louise fought back to take the third 6–1, but the damage was done.

A proper statement from MK.

👶 Dylan & Matthew finally drop a set

And then there was another little piece of history.

Dylan & Matthew, who had been absolutely ridiculous all season, finally dropped a set.

MK took the first two 7–5, 6–4, before Dylan & Matthew fought back with a 6–4 third set.

They still won the category, but that first little dent in the record is worth mentioning.

The unbeaten run in games is over.

Nobody tell them. 😂

👨 Kevin & Kyle and Andreas & Dino keep rolling

Kevin & Kyle continued their strong Intermediate form with a 6–1, 6–2, 7–6 win.

And Andreas & Dino took Men's Open 6–4, 6–3, 6–3.

So MK managed to take the Ladies category, but Thrashers simply had too much elsewhere.

Five wins from five.

72 points.

Playoffs secured.

At this stage, Texan Petroleum may as well start filling the Thrashers tank for Playoffs Weekend. ⛽😂

The only question now is how many donuts they plan on bringing with them.

⚔️ U-PRO ATTERBURY vs PADEL PARQ KIMIAD B 8–8 DRAW

We predicted a 9–7 U-Pro win.

Instead, both teams looked at our prediction and said:

"No thanks, we'll make it even more stressful." 😂

This was another proper tug-of-war.

👩 Kimiad take Ladies

Lee Collins & Hillary de Beer were ruthless, beating Shanagh & Lee Vounatsos 6–3, 6–2, 6–0.

That's a pretty emphatic way to claim three points.

U-Pro hit back in Beginner with Demetre & Cody, who won 6–1, 6–1, 6–1.

Then U-Pro took Intermediate.

Then Kimiad's Kean & Ryan took Open 2–1.

And suddenly...

8–8.

Nobody won the fixture.

Nobody lost the fixture.

Everyone probably stared at the final scoreboard for five minutes wondering if another half-point was hiding somewhere. 😂

🎾 WRC 3 vs TENROUNDS Tenrounds win 13–3

Tenrounds did what we expected and came away with another big win.

But the Ladies gave us another three-set thriller.

👩 ANOTHER TENROUNDS LADIES MARATHON

Charice & Yolandi came out firing against Marijke & Elsa, taking the opening set 6–1.

Tenrounds hit straight back with 6–1, and then came the decider.

WRC3 eventually took the final set 7–6.

Another proper three-set battle for the Tenrounds Ladies.

At this point, Tenrounds Ladies matches apparently come with a complimentary extra hour. 😂

The rest of the fixture was much more straightforward.

Francois & Gideon, Dean & Anrich, and Roux & Maree all took their categories 3–0.

And Roux & Maree were particularly brutal:

6–1, 6–0, 6–1.

That's not a match.

That's a performance review. 😂

🔵 NORTHERN CONFERENCE 🏔️ SKYe vs RALLY REBELS Rally Rebels win 13–3

SKYe needed something to change.

Rally Rebels had other plans.

Sone & Charelle continued their excellent form in Ladies, beating Abigail & Anzelle 6–0, 6–3, 6–2.

Rally also took Beginner and Open.

SKYe did manage to put up a fight in Intermediate, with Louis & Nantus eventually winning a brilliant three-set battle 6–3, 2–6, 7–6.

But overall, Rally were simply too strong.

SKYe now sit on 12 points from five matches.

The Texan fuel truck may need to arrive with a jump-start kit. 😂⛽

🐺 PADEL PATROL vs WRC 1 8–8 DRAW

This was a fascinating one because Padel Patrol basically followed the SAPL team-league playbook:

Lose two categories. Win the other two. Make everyone sweat.

👩 Liezel keeps the Donut Factory open

There was a change in personnel this week, with Freda sitting this one out, but apparently nobody told Liezel that the bakery was closed. 😂

Liezel and her stand-in partner got the job done against Gemma & Jessica, winning 6–3, 6–0, 6–2.

And that means:

Another donut. 🍩

The production line continues.

Freda may have been missing, but Liezel clearly wasn't prepared to let the factory shut down for a week.

👶 WRC1 take Beginner

Xander & Stephan continued their excellent season with a 6–2, 6–3, 6–2 win over Devon & Malcolm.

But Padel Patrol weren't finished.

👨 The Fischer Brothers keep rolling

Adrien & Cameron Fisher delivered again, beating Dewald & Adrian 6–2, 6–3, 6–4.

These two are becoming a serious problem.

Then came Open.

👨 Zestian & Conré do it again

Zestian & Conré continued their strong run, beating Divan & Wihann 6–2, 6–4, 6–2.

So Patrol lost Ladies and Beginner...

Then took Intermediate and Open.

8–8.

Exactly why every single category matters.

🟡 KOP RIETONDALE 1 vs WRC 2 KOP1 win 14–2

This wasn't a close one.

KOP1 made a statement.

The Ladies pairing of Leticia & Bridgette beat Letitia & Hilmari 6–3, 6–4, 6–4.

And that is worth highlighting because Letitia & Hilmari had not dropped a single set all season.

Until now.

Their incredible run has finally been cracked.

KOP1 then went on to take Beginner, Intermediate and Open, with Fernando & Chris particularly ruthless in Intermediate:

6–2, 6–1, 6–0.

KOP1 walk away with 14–2 and suddenly the Northern Conference playoff race looks even more interesting.

🟠 SOUTHERN CONFERENCE 🔥 PROACTIVE WINGATE vs U-PRO INVITATIONAL U-Pro win 11–5

We called U-Pro to win this one, but perhaps not quite this way.

The big surprise was that Proactive managed to take Intermediate, while U-Pro won the other three categories.

👩 Marna & Marlie survive the Ladies battle

Marie & Daleen actually got the jump on Marna & Marlie, taking the first set 6–4.

But the U-Pro ladies responded:

7–5, 6–1.

Another comeback.

Another category for U-Pro.

🍩 Arno & Rudolph vs Stefan & Grant

This was the matchup we desperately wanted.

And Arno & Rudolph delivered.

They beat Stefan & Grant 6–3, 6–3, 6–1.

No donut this time...

But still a very serious statement.

Their donut count stays at 6, but the win column keeps getting bigger.

And yes, we're still asking for:

Arno & Rudolph vs Armand & Louis in the playoffs.

Please.

👑 Egmondt Snr & Wynand finally beaten

We warned you about Luca & Eddie.

Then they beat Egmondt Snr & Wynand last week.

And now U-Pro's Jacques & Egmond have taken them down again, winning 6–3, 7–5, 7–6.

That's a serious result.

Egmondt Snr & Wynand had been one of the big Open pairings to beat.

Now the rest of the league knows:

They're beatable.

🚨 TAYFIN vs LIV LIV win 10–6

And just like that...

The Tayfin comeback has been postponed. 😂

We called the upset.

They apparently didn't receive the memo.

Liv took the fixture 10–6, with Vian & Brentdon winning Intermediate and Raymond & Marcus taking Open.

Tayfin did get an important win from Ali & Yusha, who bounced back from losing the opening set to beat Vian & Brentdon 4–6, 7–6, 6–1.

So the comeback isn't dead.

But someone might want to turn the ignition. 🚜😂

😂 BANTER BANDITS vs PADEL PARQ KIMIAD A Banter Bandits win 11–5

We asked last week:

Can there really be another draw?

Banter decided to end that experiment.

And they did it with another very impressive Open performance.

💥 Luca & Eddie are officially a problem

After beating Egmondt Snr & Wynand last week, Luca & Eddie followed it up with another huge performance.

This time:

6–2, 6–3, 6–0.

Yes.

A donut. 🍩

At this point, we're retiring the phrase "don't underestimate Luca & Eddie."

We've got the message.

Banter's Intermediate pairing of Ryan & Gordon also fought through a tight one, winning 6–1, 3–6, 7–5.

And Chad & Danile handled Beginner 6–2, 6–2, 6–2.

Banter are now sitting on 42 points.

And suddenly that third-place position is looking very interesting.

🏆 THE PLAYOFF RACE: TWO WEEKS TO GO

Now we get to the fun part.

The rule is:

Top 2 from each conference qualify automatically.

Then the two best third-place teams across all three conferences also qualify.

That gives us 8 quarter-finalists.

And with the remaining fixtures now known, here's where things stand.

🟢 EASTERN CONFERENCE

Thrashers: 72 ✅ PLAYOFF QUALIFIED MK Padel: 60.5 Tenrounds: 32 Padel Parq B: 27 KOP Rietondale 2: 27 U-Pro Atterbury: 13.5 WRC3: 8

Remaining:

Tenrounds vs KOP2 Thrashers vs Padel Parq B U-Pro Atterbury vs WRC3

Then:

KOP2 vs Padel Parq B WRC3 vs MK Padel Tenrounds vs U-Pro Atterbury

The big one is MK vs WRC3.

MK only have one match left.

If MK collect 4 or more points, they guarantee finishing above Tenrounds even if Tenrounds win both remaining fixtures.

Tenrounds can still reach 64 points, so they are absolutely alive.

And if Tenrounds win both?

64 points.

That could put them straight into the top two depending on what happens to MK.

KOP2 and Padel Parq B can both reach 59, so they're still very much in the conversation for that valuable third-place position.

🔵 NORTHERN CONFERENCE

Team Apex: 49 WRC1: 47 KOP Rietondale 1: 39 Padel Patrol: 35 WRC2: 33 Rally Rebels: 25 SKYe: 12

And this is the conference where the spreadsheet starts smoking. 😂

Remaining:

WRC2 vs Team Apex SKYe vs Padel Patrol KOP1 vs WRC1

Then:

KOP1 vs Rally Rebels WRC2 vs WRC1 Padel Patrol vs Team Apex

Apex currently leads.

WRC1 is only 2 points behind.

KOP1 is only 8 points behind WRC1.

Padel Patrol is only 4 behind KOP1.

WRC2 is only 2 behind Patrol.

That is not a playoff race.

That's a pile-up. 😂

And remember, a team can earn up to 16 points per fixture.

So literally every one of those teams is still capable of moving several places.

🟠 SOUTHERN CONFERENCE

U-Pro Invitational: 69 Proactive Wingate: 58 Banter Bandits: 42 LIV: 25 Tayfin: 19 Padel Parq Kimiad A: 14 WRC4: 9

Remaining:

Then:

Banter Bandits vs U-Pro Invitational Padel Parq A vs LIV Tayfin vs WRC4

U-Pro Invitational are sitting pretty on 69.

Proactive are on 58, but Banter are only 16 points behind and have two fixtures remaining.

And this is where it gets interesting.

Banter can still reach 74.

So second place is absolutely not settled.

Banter could potentially leapfrog Proactive and take the automatic playoff spot.

And if they don't?

42 points already puts them in the best-third-place conversation.

🥉 THE BEST THIRD-PLACE RACE

This is where things get really interesting.

Currently:

Banter Bandits: 42 KOP Rietondale 1: 39 Tenrounds: 32

But those numbers mean almost nothing once you look at the remaining fixtures.

Tenrounds can reach 64. KOP1 can reach 71. Banter can reach 74.

And suddenly you've got teams from three different conferences fighting for two wild-card quarter-final spots.

And don't forget Padel Patrol, WRC2, Padel Parq B and KOP2.

They can all still throw themselves into the mix.

⛽ THE TEXAN PLAYOFF FUEL GAUGE

Five weeks down.

Two regular-season rounds to go.

Thrashers are already qualified.

U-Pro are sitting on 69.

MK are trying to hold off Tenrounds.

Apex, WRC1, KOP1, Padel Patrol and WRC2 are basically fighting over the Northern Conference with a knife between their teeth.

Banter have suddenly gone from "fun team with Luca & Eddie" to a genuine playoff threat.

And Tenrounds?

They're sitting on 32 points with two games left.

That tank isn't empty yet. ⛽😂

Some teams need points.

Some need sets.

Some need their best pairings to turn up.

And some are going to need Texan Petroleum to start selling miracles at the pump.
