The final league fixtures take place this Thursday, with the playoffs on Saturday, 10 October. The top two teams from each conference qualify automatically, along with the two best third-place teams across the three conferences.
Already through: Thrashers, MK Padel, Proactive Wingate and U-Pro Invitational have secured their quarter-final places. Congratulations to them! For everyone else, the calculators are out, the permutations are multiplying, and nobody should be making Saturday plans just yet.
๐ EASTERN CONFERENCE: TENROUNDS HAVE A MOUNTAIN TO CLIMB
Thrashers have been untouchable and are guaranteed first place, while MK Padel have secured second. That leaves the spotlight firmly on Tenrounds, currently sitting on 41 points, with a catch-up Menโs Beginner game that could take them to 45.
Their final full fixture is against U-Pro Atterbury, and this is where things get interesting. Tenrounds need a strong points haul to put pressure on the teams currently occupying the best-third-place spots. The good news? They have a chance to make up ground. The bad news? There is no friendly little warm-up waiting for them.
Tenroundsโ mission: collect points, preferably in bulk. No need to win pretty. Just win!
๐ต NORTHERN CONFERENCE: TWO MATCHES, FOUR TEAMS, ONE BIG HEADACHE
This is the conference to watch. Team Apex, KOP Rietondale 1, Padel Patrol and WRC1 are all fighting over positions one, two and three. Three of those teams will be in the quarter-finals conversation, but one could be watching from the couch on Saturday.
KOP Rietondale 1 vs WRC1
This is massive. Both teams have plenty to play for, and the points they collect could determine whether they finish first, second or third. WRC1 also have three catch-up games from last week, giving them extra opportunities to build their total.
Padel Patrol vs Team Apex
Another match with serious consequences. Padel Patrol are right in the mix, while Team Apex will want to protect their position at the top. A big win here could make the difference between a comfortable qualification and a very uncomfortable Thursday-night refresh of the standings page.
The key is that these two fixtures are connected. The result of one changes the pressure on the other. One team having an off night could be the difference between playing quarter-finals and becoming a very enthusiastic spectator.
๐ก SOUTHERN CONFERENCE: BANTER UNDER PRESSURE
Proactive Wingate have already qualified, and U-Pro Invitational are also safely through. Proactive have no games left, while U-Pro have one final fixture against Banter Bandits.
Banter are currently on 50 points and occupy a best-third-place qualifying position. But they have drawn one of the toughest possible final opponents. U-Pro have been handing out results that make the rest of the league check the score twice, and Banter now need to find a way to collect points against them.
That is where Tenrounds come into the picture. If U-Pro do Tenrounds a favour and beat Banter convincingly, the door opens. If Banter hold their ground, Tenrounds will have to do some serious catching up.
Banterโs problem: they are in a qualifying spot, but they still have to defend it. That is a very different feeling from sitting comfortably with your bags packed for Saturday.
๐ THE BEST-THIRD-PLACE RACE: TOP FIVE CHASERS
Only the two best third-place teams qualify. Here is where the leading contenders stand, and what they need from the final round.
1. Padel Patrol | 51 points
Two winsโ worth of points should put Patrol in a strong position to qualify. Their match against Team Apex is crucial, though. They cannot afford to stroll onto court thinking the job is already done.
2. Banter Bandits | 50 points
Two big winsโ worth of points would take Banter to 58, giving them a strong total to defend. But with U-Pro standing in their way, that is easier said than done. If Banter get a big result, Tenrounds will need a monster points haul to catch them.
3. WRC1 | 50 points, with games in hand
WRC1 are in a favourable position because they have a full fixture remaining, worth up to 16 points, plus three catch-up games from last week. That is a lot of points still on the table.
With Freda and Liezel in the team, we would expect at least one win from those catch-up games, which would take WRC1 to around 54 points. They then have six remaining opportunities across the catch-up games and final fixture to collect the points needed. Three wins could be enough to get them through, depending on the other results.
4. Tenrounds | 41 points, potentially 45 before the final fixture
Tenrounds have the biggest hill to climb, but they are certainly not out of it. First, they can pick up points in their catch-up Menโs Beginner game. Then they face U-Pro Atterbury.
Their best route? Hope U-Pro Invitational give Banter Bandits a proper hiding, then collect at least two wins against U-Pro Atterbury. Given what U-Pro Invitational have done to other teams this season, a favour from the U-Pro family is not beyond the realms of possibility!
5. KOP Rietondale 1 | 53 points
KOP1 are already in a strong position in the Northern Conference, but their match against WRC1 could also affect the wider best-third-place race. A strong result could help them secure their conference position and keep the pressure on the chasing pack.
The final order will depend on the points collected across Thursdayโs remaining fixtures, so these are targets rather than guarantees.
๐พ THURSDAY IS THE LAST CHANCE
The final league matches are on Thursday. The quarter-finals follow on Saturday, 10 October.
There are 16 points available in a full fixture, so a team can still change its fortunes in a single night. Every set matters, every bonus point matters, and every missed opportunity could be the one that sends a team home early.
Thursday decides who gets in. Saturday decides who survives.
Time to bring the points, bring the pressure, and maybe keep the calculator handy. ๐ฉ๐ฅ
